THE DOOR-BELL

I never hear it ring without
A creepy little thrill
Expectant of some possible
Adventure, good or ill.
***
It may be just a friend who comes
To have a cup of tea;
It may be just a letter's old
Familiar mystery.
***
It may be one who comes to sell
Some queer, unwanted thing;
Or one who brings the latest news
Of war and uncrowned king.
***
It may be just these happenings
Of every-day, but still
I never hear it ring without
That funny little thrill.

LITTLE ROADS TO HAPPINESS

The little roads to happiness, they are not hard to find;
They do not lead to great success-but to a quiet mind.
They do not lead to mighty power, nor to substantial wealth.
They bring one to a book, a flower, a song of cheer and health.
The little roads to happiness are free to everyone;
They lead one to the wind's caress, to kiss of friendly sun.
These little roads are shining white, for all the world to see;
Their sighn-boards, pointing left and right, are love and sympathy.
The little roads of happiness have this most charming way;
No matter how they may digress throughout the busy day;
No matter where they twist and wind through fields of rich delight,
They're always of the self same mind to lead us home at night.

A Gift for U

We are still making zentangles for the Holidays here. Be glad when this week is over with sorta getting tired of the holiday themes I am ready to move on to something else. This package came out pretty good I think I'll draw another one.
This one went fast too, well, the trade is pending I am pretty sure it is gone.

12/25/08

Zentangle Ornament

In the social group as you can see we are still drawing ornaments ..giggle.. it is sorta fun it is amazing to see all the different shapes, styles that everyone came up with.
I was not really happy with this drawing but it sure did trade fast!...
Guess I'm not sure how I like using multiple colors in a Zentangle I really prefer Black and White plus one color nor more than 2 different colors.

Ornaments

I host a group over at ATCsforALL call
Zentangle with a Twist Social group
Here we have a great time drawing zentangles trying different techniques. The twist is to turn a drawing into a zentangle. It is quiet fun, we been drawing teddy bears and so much more turning them into Zentangles. With the Holidays here the Ladies and Gentlemen have been drawing ornaments, well, here is mine.

TRUE TO THE BEST

Long years of pleasant friendship may be broken
By one hour's work and thoughtless word or deed.
Yet why forget the thousand good words spoken,
The kindly help which met a passing need?
We do not spurn the sunlight when 'tis hidden;
We look for good when fiercest storms descend.
Then why lose faith, when underserved, unbidden,
We meet disloyal usage from a friend?

Boy where have I've been?

Boy where have I been I notice that the last time I have been here was on the 13th of December. Boy has this month fly by so fast. Each day is getting shorter n shorter I find myself loosing time. With that said I am going to leave you with a positive quoite for the day.

Living is a form of not being sure,
not knowing what next, or how. the
moment you know how, you begin to
die a little. The artist never entirely
knows. We guess. We may be wrong,
but we take leap after leap in the dark.

OPEN YOUR EYES

Open your eyes that you may see
The beauty that around you lies,
The misty loveliness of the dawn,
The glowing colors of the skies;
The child's bright eager eyes of blue,
The gnarled and wrinkled face of age,
The bird with crimson on his wing
Whose spirit never knew a cage;
The roadside's blooming goldenrod
So brave through summer's wind and heat,
The brook that rushes to the sea
With courage that naught may defeat.
Open your eyes that you may see
The wonder that around you lies;
It will enrich your every day
And make you glad and kind and wise.

WHO LOVES THE RAIN

Who loves the rain
And loves his home,
And looks on life with quiet eyes,
Him will I follow through the storm;
And at his heart-fire keep me warm;
Nor hell nor heaven shall that soul surprise,
Who loves the rain,
And loves his home,
And looks on life with quiet eyes.

Mystery of a SnowFlake

This was my favorite of all the zentangle snowflakes I made. This was traded right away, guess I was not the only one that like it. ..*smile*..

12/10/08

Snowflake

Ah, a mystery of a snowflake.
It gently falls from the sky as silent as can be.
As each one falls each one is different
So delicate that it is impossible to see the
beautiful pattern of each snowflake.

Over at ATCsforALL Nataliee was our Host she came up with a challenge that we should make a Zentangle snowflake.

It was amazing to see all the different snowflakes that our members made. Not one was a like!

THE HUMAN TOUCH

Tis the human touch in this world that counts,
The touch of your hand and mine,
Which means far more to the fainting heart
Than shelter and rbead and wine;
For shelter is gone when the night is o'er,
And bread lasts only a day,
But the touch of the hand and the sound of the voice
Sing on in the soul alway.

POST CARDS

One day I was thinking, yes I was thinking can you believe that? My husband wanted to know what the noise was ..giggle.. well, as I was thinking I thought it would be nice to make up Post Cards of my Art maybe try to sale them or send them off in the mail to friends and family.
A while back I was making these Fabric Chunkie Pages. Digitally I made a photograph of the pages then tweak them a bit for post cards here are my first 2 cards I want to make a set of 5 or 6 different views.

here is the 2nd one...
Amazing what you can do with digital pictures!

THE RAINBOW

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a Man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is Father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.
William Wordsworth
I bet you thought this was going to be a beautiful poem about rainbows, this poor fella must have been very down when he wrote this poem.

YOU NEVER CAN TELL

You never can tell when you send a word
Like an arrow shot from a bow
By an archer blind, be it cruel or kind,
Just where it may chance to go.
It may pierce the breast of your dearest friend,
Tipped with its poison or balm,
To a stranger's heart in life's great mart
It may carry its pain or its calm.
You never can tell when you do an act
Just what the results will be,
But with every deed you are sowing a seed.
Though the harvest you may not see.
Each kindly act is an acorn dropped
In God's productive soil;
You may not know, but the tree shall grow
With shelter for those who toil.
You never can tell what your thoughts will do
In bringing you hate or love,
For thoughts are things, and their airy wings
Are swifter than carrier doves.
They follow the law of the universer-
Each thing must create its kind,
And they speed o'er the track to bring you back
Whatever went out from your mind.

BLING CHUNKIE PAGES

My friend ArtstandingStranger a while back hosted a BLING Chunkie Page. I wanted to participate but at that time, well, my health was not the best I did not feel I should obligate myself. To my amazement one day visiting her admiring everyone chunkie pages she gave me one that she had made. Oh it's beautiful! So since I'm one of these people that says I'm not making chunkie pages I decided to make her one hoping it will come out okay. I'm not a Bling person more of a tom boy and shiny things don't always grab my attention.
Ranie BLING for Diane

I base my BLING on a Couple of Lovers I use embossing powders, pearl ex, glitter, bling, beads, lace, clipart, metallic watercolor paints, threads and yarns. I had so much fun making this that I made myself one too. Now I have a total of 3 different chunkie pages for myself. This is so addicting.
Ranie Bling Chunkie Page

Well, they are almost just alike a little different not much. I like to make an extra one for me. To be able to show off my work in person. Always looks so much better in person than a picture. I tend to give most of my stuff away. Now I beginning to have a nice display of my art.

Fabric Chunkie Pages

Well I have said over and over again. I have NO intention to start making chunkie pages. Guess what I'm making chunkie pages. These are 4 x 4 pages made of fabric or paper. We take these pages turning them into a book. Well here are my fabric pages. Our Host over at ATCsforALL wanted them chunkie. I had come up with an idea then I suddenly decided I better re-checked and see if there was a theme we were to go by. ..giggle..oh my there was boy did it turn my idea up side down. The theme was In the Garden, my mind started ticking in the garden then I had a great idea ........
In the Garden are my Funky Flowers
I started out with 2 pieces of fabric with batting. Then I sewed a design hoping to make it stiffer, I wasn't too happy with it then I took some silk flowers and hand sculpted a bunch of  nylon faces. Then I attached a few on each page I made 8 pages. Once done with that I decided those funky flowers needed something more so I went into my stash found some fuzzy yarn putting that around their faces now that dress it up a bit. Still something else was
needed oh my goodness they were bald needed to fix that! I got some glue and glitter out gave them a funky looking cap still looked a bit plain, decided to add beads and buttons and so much more. My first chunky page and it had to be fabric. Lots of hand sewing a lot of work. I kept 3 giving one to a friend of mine here at home, two for myself, that means I sent 5 to UK. Now I am patiently waiting to received four pages back from four different artist. Once I get them back I get to turn them into a book. Now that is going to be interesting!

SATURDAY NIGHT

This is a cute little poem dated 1852 about a young child taught that she could not play on Sunday!

Now Dolly, my dear,
I pray you come here;
And work is all done;
I'll put you to bed, for to-morrow is Sunday,
And I'll not see you again until Monday.

you don't want to go?
But you ought to know
That it is by right;
So, Dolly, good-night:

You must lie without noise or crying till Monday,
For you know we ought not to play on Sunday.

GOD BE WITH YOU

May His Counsels Sweet uphold you,
And His Loving Arms enforld you,
As you journey on your way.
May His Sheltering Whings protect you,
And His Light Divine direct you,
Turning Darkness into day.
May His Potent Peace surround you,
And His Presence linger with you,
As your inner, golden ray.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

One of my favorite times of the year is Fall with Fall comes Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving, my husband and I always spend it alone coming from split families and everyone so far away from each other it is not easy to get together. This year Thanksgiving is different for all of us, with times being rough so many have lost so much. Yet, there are so many things to be thankful for now and each and every day!

Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude to God,
Our creator and Provider,
whose guidance and care go before us....
and whose love is with us forever.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the changes,
to remember that we, too, grown and change
from one season of life to another.
Thanksgiving is a time of changing seasons,
when leaves turn golden in Autumn's wake
and apples are crips in the first chill breezes of fall.
Let us remember the ture meaning of Thanksgiving.
As we see the beauty of Autumn, let us acknowledge
the many blessings which are ours....
let us think of our families and friends...
and let us give thanks in our hears.

REMEMBRANCE

Over in the Flickr group the challenge for that week was REMEMBRANCE oh my I thought what should I do? As artist started turning in their cards they were all referring to love ones or soldiers that have pass on. Each had a comment which made me shed tears. A little emotional I am. As I thought about it I finally look up the word in the dictionary. Learning that Remembrance is also consider Memories, ah! I came up with something that I thought would be special and a bit different. I decided to collage a scene with a two-fold memory. A young girl standing before Yia Yia (Grandma) learning to do needle work as they are working the you child said to her Yia Yia, tell me a story when you where a little girl? Hence a young child forming a memory and Grandma looking back on her life sharing a memory of hers.

THE FAIRING

Oh dear! What a beautiful Doll
My sister has bought at the fair!
She says I must cal it "Miss Poll",
And make it a bonnet to wear.
O pretty new Doll! it looks fine;
Its cheeks are all cover'd with red;
But, pray, will it always be mine?
And, pray, may I take it to bed?
How kind was my sister to buy
This Dolly, with hair that will curl!
Perhaps, if you want to know why,
She'll tell you I've been a good girl.

THE CROSS WAS HIS OWN

They borrowed abed to lay His head
When Christ the Lord came down;
They borrowed the ass in the mountain pass
For Him to ride to town;
But the crown that He wore and the Cross that He bore
Where His own-
The Cross was His own.
He borrowed the bread when the crowd He fred
On the grassy mountain side,
He borrowed the dish of broken fish
With which He satisfied.
But the crown that He wore and the Cross that He bore
Where His own-
The Cross was His own.
He borrowed the ship in which to sit
To teach the multitude;
He borrowed a nest in which to rest-
He had never a home so rude;
But the crown that He wore and the Cross that He bore
Where His own-
The Cross was His own.
He borrowed a room on His way to the tomb
The Passover Lamb to eat;
They borrowed a cave for Him a grave,
They borrowed a winding sheet.
But the crown that He wore and the Cross that He bore
Where His own-
The Cross was His own.

THREE GATES

If you are tempted to reveal
A tale to you someone has told
About another, make it pass,
Before you speak, three gates of gold.
These narrow gates: first, "Is it true?"
Then, "Is it needful?" In your mind
Give truthful answer. And the next
Is last and narrowest, "Is it kind?"
And if to reach your lips at last
It passes through these gateways three,
Then you may tell the tale, nor fear
What the result of speech may be
From The Arabian

IS IT TRUE?

Is it true, O Christ in Heaven,
That the highest suffer most?
That the strongest wander furthest,
And more helplessly are lost?
That the mark of rank in nature
Is capacity for pain?
And the anguish of the singer
Makes the sweetness of the strain?
Is it true, O Christ in Heaven,
That whichever way we go
Walls of darkness must surround us,
Thinks we would but cannot know?
That the infinite must bound us
Like a temple veil unrent,
Whilst the finite ever wearies,
So that one's therein content?
Is it true, O Christ in Heaven,
That the fullness yet to come
Is so glorious and so perfect
That to know would strike us dumb?
That if ever for a moment
We could pierce beyond the sky
With these poor dim eyes of mortals,
We should just see God and die?

Vintage Tag #2

Here is my 2nd vintage tag. I have a friend here that is also involved in a lot of art groups. She is mostly into chunky books right now. I'm trying to stay away from them. Anyway she just host a Blink Chunky Book swap. Well I wasn't sure what bling was, the other day I went over to her house admiring everyone chunkie book pages. Some marvelous work there ladies! After viewing all that lovely work seeing what they use for bling ..giggle.. I have bling, oh how funny. While working on this 2nd vintage tag for the challenge swap over on the flickr site I just couldn't get that bling out of my head.

~Ranie Patridis
Oh my, once working on this card I started adding bling in the form of beads, lace and button. The clip art I painted with metallic acrylic paint add lace to hang the tag by. When all done and said, I couldn't let this go either. This was my 2nd tag and my first bling ..giggle.. I kept it!...and NO I did not attempt to try to do a 3rd one I decided that 2 attempts were enough. Hopefully when I enter the next challenge swap I'll be strong enough to let go....

Can't you see a child carving faces into a pumpkin at harvest time? I can. This is a collage I alcohol Ink the background then I added vintage clip art that I had layering it. I like to cut my figures out and mix them up. Then I cut up some straw very small then last not least like to take my paints and touch up the clipart. I then add a bunch of yarns and ribbons to hang by. I kept this one and thought to myself  you can make another one for the challenge to swap. That you will see tomorrow.

MAKING A MAN

Hurry the baby as fast as you can,
Hurry him, worry him, make him a man.
Off with his baby clothes, get him in pants,
Feed him on brain foods and make him advance.
Hustle him, soon as he's able to walk,
Into a grammar school; cram him with talk.
Fill his poor head full of figures and facts,
Keep on a-jamming them in till it cracks.
Once boys grew up at a rational rate,
Now we develop a man whil you wait,
Rush him through college, compel him to grab
Of every known subject a dip and a dab.
Get him in business and after the cash,
All by the time he can grow a mustache.
Let him forget he was ever a boy,
Make gold his god and its jingle his joy.
Keep him a-hustling and clear out of breath,
Until he wins-nervous prostration and death.

UP-HILL

Does the road wind up-hill all the way?
Yes, to the very end.
Will the day's journey take the whole long day?
From morn to night, my friend.
But is there for the night a resting-place?
A roof for when the slow dark hours begin.
May not the darkness hide it from my face?
You cannot miss that inn.
Shall I meet other wayfarers at night?
Those who have gone before.
Then must I knock, or call when just in sight?
They will not keep you standing at that door.
Shall I find comfort, travel-sore and weak?
Of labour you shall find the sum.
Will there be beds for me and all who seek?
Yea, beds for all you come.

Dancing Butterfly Dance

A few days ago I received an PM from a DariRose over at ATCsforAll asking me to do a blind trade with her. I agreed. I was still on the butterfly thread so I decided to one for her. As I worked on her card I decided I needed to make me one.

~Ranie Patridis
The back ground of this card was done in Acrylic Paints several different colors giving it a abstract look. I then once the back ground was dried I then painted the butterflies in with Watercolor and Ink. Here I choose to have 2 different size of butterflies. The one I did for DariRose her butterflies were all the same size. This was so much letting loose playing with the colors.

INNOCENT OF HALLOWEEN

My 2nd card in the set title
innocent of halloween
 ~Ranie Patridis
The innocent of trick or treat running from home to home asking for treats. Not realizing as we grow up what the true meaning of Halloween is. Most think of it as just a night of spooks n tricks getting the daylights scared out of ya or the one day of the year you get lots of candy. Do a seach for the history of Halloween then decided is this what you really want to be part of.

What else would it be. I decided to particpate keeping a mind on the Innocent of Halloween. So many children who even grow up to be adults do not realize the history of Halloween or how it all came about.

THE SHIP THAT SAILS

I'd rather be the ship that sails
And rides the billows wild and free;
Than to be the ship that always fails
To leave its port and go to sea.
I'd rather feel the sting of strife,
Where gales are born and tempests roar;
Than to settle down to useless life
And rot in dry dock on the shore.
I'd rather fight some mighty wave
With honor in supreme command;
And fill at last a well-earned grave,
Than die in ease upon the sand
I'd rather drive where sea storms blow,
And be the ship that always failed.
To make the ports where it would go,
Than be the ship that never sailed.

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING

Unanswered yet the prayer your lips have pleaded
In agony of heart these many years?
Does faith begin to fail, is hope declining,
And think you all in vain those falling tears?
Say not the Father has not heard your prayer;
You shall have your desire, sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? tho' when you first presented
This one petition at the Father's throne,
It seemed you could not wait the time of asking,
So anxious was your heart to have it done;
If years have passed since then, do not despair,
For God will answer you sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? But you are not unheeded;
The promises of God forever stand;
To Him our days and years alike are equal;
Have faith in God! It is your Lord's command.
Hold on to Jacob's angel, and your prayer
Shall bring a blessing down sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? Nay, do not say unanswered,
Perhaps your part is not yet wholly done,
The work began when first your prayer was uttered,
And God will finish what He has begun.
Keep incense burning at the shrine of prayer,
And glory shall decend sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? Faith cannot be unanswered;
Her feet are firmly planted on the Rock;
Amid the wildest storms she stands undaunted,
Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock.
Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock.
She knows Omnipotence has heard her prayer,
And cries, "It shall be done sometime, somewhere."

SUCCESS

Genius, that power which dazzles mortal eyes,
Is oft but perserverance in disguise.
Continuous effort of itself implies,
In spite of countless falls, the power to rise.
'Twixt failure and success the print's so fine,
Men sometimes know not when they touch the line;
Just when the pearl is waiting one more plunge,
How many a struggler has thrown up the sponge!
As the tide goes clear out it comes clear in;
In business 'tis at turns, the wisest win;
And, oh, how true when shades of doubt disma,
"'Tis often darkest just before the day."
A little more persistence, courage, vim,
Success will dawn o'er failure's cloudy rim.
Then take this honey for the bitterest cup;
There is no failure, save in giving up.
No real fall, so long as one still tries,
For seeming set-backs make the strong man wise.
There's no defeat, in truth, save from within;
Unless you're beaten there, you're bound to win.

I THINK THAT GOD IS PROUD

I think that God is proud of those who bear
A sorrow bravely-proud indeed of them
Who walk straight through the dark to find Him there,
And kneel in faith to touch his garment's hem.
Oh, proud of them who lift their heads to shake
Away the tears from eyes that have grown dim,
Who tighten quivering lips and turn to take
The only road they know that leads to Him.
How proud He must be of them-He who knows
All sorrow, and how hard grief is to bear!
I think He sees them coming, and He goes
With outstretched arms and hands to meet them there,
And with a look, a touch on hand or head,
Each finds his hurt heart strangely comforted.

DOING WHAT'S RIGHT FOR US

We Must Do What's
Right For Us
The great thing to learn about life is,
first, not to do what you don't want
to do, and, second, to do what you
do want to do.
