TWEAKING A PHOTOGRAPH

I love to take pictures especially with a digital camera. Then I sometimes like to tweak it a bit on the computer. The Rose that I shared with you, the full rose bloom, well this is what I did with it.

This would make a pretty quilt, to bad it is just a photo.

THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE A FRIEND

"The only way to have a friend is to be one"
Emmerson
The only way to have a friend
Is to be one yourself;
The only way to keep a friend
Is to give from that wealth.
For friendship must be doublefold,
Each one must give his share
Of feelings true if he would reap
The blessing that are there.
If you would say, "He is my friend,"
Then nothing else will do
But you must say, "I am his friend,"
And prove that fact be true.

PRAYER

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to  be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
St. Francis of Assisi

Ring of Angels

Over at Friendship Doll Group there was a swap going on. A swap is where people make a commitment to each other to fulfill their commitment to each other. In this swap we were to make four angels,

we were to take three of these angels send them off to three other members of our swap. Keeping the fourth one for our self. Then each of the other three swappers did the same. We would all end up with four angels each. Once we received our angels we are to attached them together. They can hang or sit in a circle on a table.
Well, this one is mine, now I'm waiting to received three more angels from three different swappers.

Little Books

Little Books are just that little books. Here I made four for a swap I was participating in over at ATCsforALL. We where asked to make a book leaving the pages inside blank. We were to decorate the front and back. Well here you see the front as for the back, well, I just put my name chatty on the back. The inside I make blank pages staple them together then glue the first and last page to the front and back of the book. I was really please how they turn out. At the time I was not feeling well when putting these books together. It was nice to see how nice they came out.

ERASERS

Erasers are the nicest things!
Of that there is no doubt.
We write wrong words. A few quick swipes-
And big mistakes fade out.
And you will find erasers,
Of a very different kind,
Extremely helpful, if you will try
To bear these facts in mind:
When you bump someone in a crowd,
And almost knock her down,
A soft "I'm sorry!" may bring smiles
And a rub out that old frown.
Apologies, invariably,
Obliterate mistakes;
And three small words, "I love you!"
Can erase the worst heartaches.

WHO HATH A BOOK

Who hath a book
Has friends at hand,
And gold and gear
At his command;
And rich estates,
If he but look,
Are held by him
Who hath a book.
Who hath a book
Has but to read
And he may be
A king indeed;
His kingdom is
His inglenook;
All this is his
Who hath a book.

THE ANVIL-GOD'S WORD

Last Eve I passed beside a blacksmith's door,
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;
Then, looking in, I saw upon the floor
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.
"How many anvils have you had," said I
"to wear and batter all these hammers so?"
"just one," said he, and then, with twinkling eye,
"The anvil wears the hammers out, you know."
And so, thought I, the anvil of God's Word.
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet, thought the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed-the hammers gone.

Little Mr. Mischief

Now isn't this funny. When I first drew this picture I was so proud of it. Now as I'm looking at it I see so many flaws. Look at they eyes, now look at the shading around the mouth area. Oh my, what a mess. Hey though that is how we learn by drawing keeping the pictures going back through them then shake our heads asking our selves, what in the world was I thinking?

LIFE LESSON

There are times in one's life when all the world seems to turn against us. Our motives are misunderstood, our words misconstrued, and unkind words reveals to us the unfriendly feelings of others.
 The fact is, that it is rare when injustice. or slights, patiently borne, do not leave the heart at the close of the day filled with a marvelous sense of peace-perhaps not at once-but after you've had a chance to reflect a bit. It is  the seed God has sown, springing up and bearing fruit.
We learn, as the years roll onward and we leave the past behind, that much we had counted sorrow, but proved that God is kind; that many a flower we'd longed for had hidden a thorn of pain, and many a rugged by-path led to fields of ripened grain.
 The clouds that cover the sunshine; they cannot bannish the sun. And the earth shines out the brighter when the weary rain is done. We must stand in the deepest shadow to see the clearest light; and often through Wrong's own darkness comes the welcome strength of Right.

WHATEVER IS-IS BEST

I know, as my life grows older,
And mine eyes have clearer sight,
That under each rank wrong somewhere
There lies the root of Right;
That each sorrow has its purpose,
By the sorrowing oft unguessed;
But as sure as the sun brings morning,
Whatever is-is best.

I know that each sinful action,
As sure as the night brings shade,
Is somewhere, sometime punished,
Tho' the hour be long delayed.
I know that the soul is aided
Sometimes by the heart's unrest,
And to grow means often to suffer-
But whatever is-is best.

I know there are no errors,
in the great Eternal plan,
And all things work together
For the final good of man.
And I know when my soul speeds onward,
In its grand Eternal quest,
I shall say as I look back earthward,
Whatever is-is best.

THE FOX WENT OUT ONE FROSTY NIGHT

    The Fox went out one frosty night
And begged for the moon to give him light,
He had so many miles to walk that night,
Before he'd reach his den, oh.
chorus:
Den oh, den oh,
Before he reached his den.
The fox caught the gray goose by the neck,
And flung her right across his back
The black duck shouts out, "Quack, quack, quack,
The fox is off to his den, oh."
Mrs. Slipper Slapper jumped out of bed,
Out of the window popped her head;
"John! John! John! the gray goose is gone,
And the fox is off to his den, oh."
John went up to the top of the hill
And blew a blast, both loud and shrill,
The fox said, "That's pretty music still-
I'd rather be in my den, oh."
The fox took it home to his hungry wife,
Who made good use of the carving knife.
"Never eate a better goose in all my life!"
And the young ones picked the bones, oh.

THE WINDS OF FATE

One ship drives east another drives west
With the selfsame winds that blow.
'Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales
Which tells us the way to go.
Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate,
As we voyage along through life:
'Tis the set of a soul
That decides its goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

JUDGED BY THE COMPANY ONE KEEPS

    One night in late October,
When I was far from sober,
Returning with my load with manly pride,
My feet began to stutter,
So I lay down in the gutter,
And a pig came near and lay down by my side;
A lady passing by was heard to say:
"You can tell a man who boozes,
By the company he chooses,"
And the pig got up and slowly walked away.

THE TORCH

Lord, let me be the torch that springs to light
And lives its life in one exultant flame,
One leap of living fire against the night,
Dropping to darkness even as it came.
For i have watched the smouldering of a soul
Choked in the ashes that itself hath made,
Waiting the slow destruction of the whole,
And turned from it, bewildered and afraid.
Light me with love-with hate-with all desire
For that I may not reach, but let me burn
My little moment inpulsating fire
Ere yet into the darkness I return;
Be it for guard, or menace, peace or sword,
Make me thy torch to burn out swiftly, Lord.

ATD ~ Artist Trading Dolls

ATD are artist trading dolls. These are art dolls made from paper that are either the size of a 2.5 x 3.5 card size or they can be larger but need to fold up to an 2.5 x 3.5 card size. These cards I am sharing with you are not my ordinary art doll cards that I would make. The young lady holding flowers is a nice card a collage now me personally I would not call this an art doll, but in the Paper Doll world it is consider an art doll.

Now this young lady below or man it looks more mannish than an lady the boots fold up keeping this an artist trading card size. Personally, I like to make art dolls larger than fold up into an artist trading card size.

LITTLE ROADS TO HAPPINESS

The little roads to happiness, they are not hard to find;
They do not lead to great success-but to a quiet mind.
They do not lead to mighty power, nor to substantial wealth.
They bring one to a book, a flower, a song of cheer and health.
The little roads to happiness are free to everyone;
They lead one to the wind's caress, to kiss of friendly sun.
These little roads are shining white, for all the world to see;
Their sign-boards, pointing left and right, are loved and sympathy.
The little roads of happiness have the most charming way;
No matter how they may digress throughout the busy day;
No matter where they twist and wind through fields of rich delight,
They're always of the self same mind to lead us home at night.

THE SCULPTOR

I took a piece of plastic clay
And idly fashioned it one day,
And as my fingers pressed it, still
It bent and yielded to my will.
I came again, when days were passed,
The bit of clay was hard at last,
The form I gave it, still it bore,
But I could change that form no more.
Then I took a piece of living clay
And gently formed it, day by day
And molded with my power and art,
A young child's soft and yielding heart.
I cam again when years were gone,
It was a man I looked upon.
He still that early impress bore,
And I could change it, nevermore.

LEARN TO WAIT

Learn to wait-life's hardest lesson
Conned, perchance, through blinding tears;
While the heart throubs sadly echo
To the tread of passing years.
Learn to wait-hope's slow fruition;
Faint not, though the way seems long;
There is joy in each condition;
Hearts through suffering may grow strong.
Thus a soul untouched by sorrow
Aims not at a higher state;
Joy seeks not a brighter morrow;
Only sad hearts learn to wait.

Trinity Fires....

We got some awesome shots of the Water Tank Helicopters getting water from Erwing Reservoir. They would fly in hover over the reservoir putting that hose into the water filling up their tanks. Here are a couple of pictures that my husband took with our Coolpix P4 camera. This is a beautiful view of our reservoir. There is a trail that you can walk all around this reservoir. As you can see that in the evening when the helicopters are filling up with water. Locals are here taking pictures along with me. There were 2 helicopters that were constantly filling up with water and dumping it over the fires surrounding Hayfork.

Going to be interesting to see how the surrounding forest will look like so much of it has burn. My heart goes out to all the wild animals that has been dislocated or gave their lives trying to escape the flames. At the same time thankful we have men and women who are willing to fight these fires.

7/31/08

Fires in Trinity County continue.....

This helicopter is amazing. I'm not sure what they called it. It is BIG. This one is carrying a bucket underneath it. The bucket holds 2,000 gallons of water in it. It will go, makes it dump, then come back to the air port, the ground grew would re-fill the bucket up.

See the Red Bucket below, this helicopter is on its way back to the fair grounds.

Now he is lowering the bucket down to the airport notice the difference in the sky color. That is heavy dark blue grey smoke in the background.
You can not see the bucket here just the long cable that holds the bucket. The bucket is now on the ground.

As you can see now that helicopter is coming on down to land. This was amazing to watch!

Fires in Trinity County continue.....

We were delighted that we were able to get these pictures right now as I am writing this it is so smoky it looks like fog.

How cool is that? I can't believe that we are getting shots like this from that little tiny camera my Coolpix P4  This is call a Water Tanker Helicopter also know has a Logging Helicopter too.

See the smoke is coming back into Hayfork. It is so dark and dreary when that smoke is upon us.

Here is a beautiful shot of a helicopter with the sunset behind the smoke causing it to look this red.
Tomorrow I will share more pictures of this Helicopter.

Fires in Trinity County

Back in June around the first week of June we had a dry lightening storm that cause havoc with Trinity County and other surrounding counties too. In Trinity County we had 79 fires burning. Our little community turn into a war zone so to speak. We have firemen here from all over, helicopters flying here n there. We are thankful to have them here fighting the fires. We have been in heavy smoke for over a month now, then suddenly Friday afternoon a nice breeze blew, blowing all the smoke out. Boy was that a blessing the smoke was really getting to us. That day we choose to go into town these are the pictures we came back with.

As we came into Hayfork, on one side it was clear blue skies the other side was dark n dreary with heavy smoke. We have been in this smoke for days some days we could barely see down our drive way.

I was so excited getting a shot of this helicopter with my little Coolpix P4 camera while at the bank I did not even notice the pine tree with the cross on top. Cool! I wonder what the pilot thought?

Mike took this picture as the helicopter was lifting from the air port here in Hayfork.
More pictures tomorrow to share with you.

WHERE DO RED-HEADED BABIES COME FROM

After their baby was born, the panicked father went to see the Obstetrician. "Doctor," the man said, "I don't mind telling you, but I'm a little upset because my daughter has red hair.  She can't possibly be mine!!"

"Nonsense," the doctor said".

"Even though you and your wife both have black hair, one of your ancestors may have contributed red hair to the gene pool."

"It isn't possible," the man insisted."????? ?"This can't be, our
families on both sides had jet-black hair for generations."

"Well," said the doctor, "let me ask you this. How often do
you have sex??? "
The man seemed a bit ashamed . "I've been working very hard for the past year. We only made love once or twice every few months."

"Well, there you have it!" The doctor said confidently.

"It's rust."

my redheaded sister in-law sent this to me!
